La Custodia de la Catedral de Murcia

Esta monumental joya de orfebrería se conserva en el Museo de la Catedral de Murcia y cobra su principal protagonismo en la Solemne Procesión del Corpus Christi que cada año organiza el Cabildo catedralicio. El autor de tan magnífica pieza fue el toledano Antonio Pérez de Montalto, que entre otros muchos cargos fue miembro de la Cofradía de San Eloy, la cual congregaba a los orfebres de la ciudad imperial; Alcalde Ordinario de la ciudad de Toledo; y platero de la reina consorte doña Mariana de Austria, segunda esposa de Felipe IV y madre de Carlos II.

Murcia me gusta. Ciudad clara de colores calientes, de piedras tostadas, color de cacahuete tostado. Y notas deliciosas de luz, las calles estrechas y sin aceras, las “veredicas del cielo”, las tiendas de los artesanos, el esparto y la cuerda. Y ahora en el crepúsculo, una luz maravillosa.
